Kettle Falls (5-6, 0-4) dropped a pair of Northeast A League boy’s basketball games last week at home. Back on Jan. 7 at Kettle Falls Middle School, Newport built an early 22-11 lead and made it stand up for a 70-62 win.
On Friday, the Bulldogs simply had no answers for Freeman (5-5, 3-1) on either side of the ball in a lopsided 77-39 loss.
In the loss to Newport (6-6, 2-3), defense tended to take a holiday, as the Grizzlies put up 22 first quarter points.
NHS got seven three-pointers from Johnathan Lyon (three in the big first quarter) and finished with 21 points. But it was Newport scoring leader Jeron Konkright who kept the Bulldogs at bay late, going six for six at the free throw line in the game’s final minute and scoring a game high 28 points.

25 for McKern

Kettle senior Connor McKern matched Lyon’s first quarter long-distance marksmanship with three treys of his own on the way to a 25- point night.
Tyler Johnson added 14 and Cole Wren chipped in with 13 for Kettle Falls.
The Bulldogs simply had no answers for Freeman on Friday night. The Scotties raced to a 27-4 first quarter lead on the cold-shooting Bulldogs and that was that. FHS led 49-16 at halftime.
Ryan Maine scored 14 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter, when Freeman’s defensive pressure made a major impact.
Wren and McKern led KFHS with eight points apiece.
