Norman LaVigne

Norman S. LaVigne was born at the family home in Chewelah on Nov. 30, 1923. The son of Cyrille and Vera LaVigne, Norm graduated from Jenkins High School in 1942 and went on to earn his Electrical Engineering degree from University of MinÂŹnesota in 1945.
He married his high school sweetheart, Irene Gunning, on June 29, 1945.
Norm was an avid skier who represented the Chewelah Peak Ski Club as a racer and instructor for many years. He served in the US Navy during WWII, then went on to open LaVigne BrothÂŹers Sporting Goods in Chewelah. Later, his work in Satellite Communication Systems took his family around the world to Hawaii, Hong Kong, Korea, Guam, South Vietnam, and the Philippines. He returned to his native Eastern Washington as a Real Estate Broker for The Lake People in Spokane.
Norm was a great outdoorsman throughout his 89 years and shared his love of fishing, hunting and skiing with many. He and Irene retired to their Black Lake home to enjoy the lake year round.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrille and Vera LaVigne and by his brothers, Gordon LaVigne and Joe LaVigne.
He is survived by wife, Irene LaVigne; children, Sherry LaViÂŹgne Addy; and Ron LaVigne, Colville; grandchildren, Christa Zamora (Karl) and Craig Post (Amy); great-grandchildren, CamÂŹeron, Connor and Carter; sister, Yvonne LaVigne; sister-in-law, Betty Lou LaVigne; nephews, Randy and Steve LaVigne.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Chewelah United Church of Christ.
Memorial service to celebrate Norm’s life will be held at the Chewelah United Church of Christ on Feb. 2 at 11 a.m.
