The loser-out game starts at 4 p.m.
The Twins, comprised of current Colville High School baseball players, are the Federal division champions of the Spokane-based AA Legion circuit. Mead, on a nine-game winning streak, comes in as fourth seed from the National division.
A Twins’ win would advance them to a quarterfinal date Thursday at 4 p.m. back at Jackson Field in the double elimination portion of the tournament. Their opponent will be the top seed from the American division.
The championship game will be held at Jackson Field Saturday night at 7 p.m.
The top four teams from the Spokane AA District Tournament will advance to the 16-team State AA Tournament July 28 through August 2 at Anacortes.
The Colville club, with only losses to Shadle Park and Riverside this summer, will pitch big right-hander Austin Hegney in Wednesday’s opener. Hegney, a senior to be at CHS, has also pitched this summer for the AAA Northeast 49ers (37-9-1).
Panorama coach Moose Zema knows that getting past Mead won’t be easy, but he’s confident that the Twins can make a tournament run.
“We are anticipating being one of the top four teams (in the tournament),” Zema said. “The kids are playing well right now.”
The local club, who split a doubleheader with Shadle Park earlier this month in their final AA regular season action of the summer, is bolstered by one of the deepest pitching staffs at the Spokane AA level.
“We do have a real deep pitching staff,” Zema said. “We have six kids who can throw the ball.”
