Patricia Hannah Shovell, a longtime resident of Northport, passed away on March 3, 2014 in Colville at the age of 75. She was born on Jan. 14, 1939 in RossÂland, British Columbia to Alfred and Lillian (Rowe) Whitehorn. She started school in Rossland, B.C., and later met Wesley Shovell at the local movie theatre. They later married on March 24, 1956 in Colville. The two started their new life together in Bossburg before moving to Northport, where they started their family. Patricia was a caring person and would always put others first, before herself. She had a great love for her family and loved to spend time with them. She especially enjoyed taking evening drives with Wesley, looking at wildlife and reporting back to her family what all they had spotted. Patricia always enjoyed a good book and doing word searches. She also liked to spend time with her grandchildren teaching them various card games, especially Rummy. She loved the grandkids being with her in the garÂden, picking strawberries and raspberries. She made a special place cornered off that the grandkids could plant and take care of anything they wanted. Patricia never missed sending a holiÂday card, including birthdays to her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She would always sign them the same way with outstretched arms as if to send a hug.
Patricia had a great love for gardening; she had a large vegetable garden in the backyard. She enjoyed canning and freezing the fresh vegetables that she grew in her garden. She also had a passion for flowers and it showed in her flower garÂden in front of her house, where she could show it off. Patricia had a love for the great outdoors as she loved to go camping and fishing at Sheep Creek with her family.
After she turned 50, she decided it was time to get her driver’s license, her GED and also decided to get a job at the local gas station in Northport. She spent countless hours as a volunteer at the Northport Food Bank.
Patricia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and cared greatly for her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Lillian Whitehorn, and by her sister, Lilly Vermiere. She is survived by her husband, Wesley at the home; her son, Robert Shovell and his wife, Mary, Colville; her daughters, Joanne Day and her husband, Glen, Northport; Karen Smith and her husband, John, Pullman; her grandchildren, Justin Shovell and his wife Amy, Colville; Royce Shovell and his wife Heidi, Spokane; Amanda Day Baribault and her husband, Mike, Anacortes; Devin Day, Palmdale, CA; Jessica Smith Stump and her husband, Phil, Spokane, and Derek Smith of Spokane; her great-grandchildren, Lillian Shovell, Grace ShovÂell, Natalie Stump, Jordan Baribault, Jalen Baribault, and Jackson Baribault; brother, Charles Whitehorn, Crnabrook, B.C.
