Raymond Mattison

September 17, 2012

Raymond Charles Mattison finished a long and useful life on August 7, 2012. He passed peacefully in the home he built, while surrounded by his family.
Ray was born on Sept. 8, 1932 in Gerome to Melvin and Freda Mattison. He graduated from Columbia High School (Hunters) in 1951, then joined the U.S. Navy in 1952. He was stationed in Hawaii and was honorably discharged in 1956.
In 1959 he settled down in Alderwood Manor, used his master carpenter skills to build his own home, and started a family.
Ray is survived by three daughters, Leanne Mattison, Gearhart, OR; Julie Martinoli, Monroe; and Andrea Cham, Lynnwood. Ray was also a grandfather to Holly Beller, Justin Rutz, Nicholas and Marianne Martinoli, and was great-grandfather to Alexander Mattison and Alivia Beller.
He was survived by his two sisters, Margery Aubrey, Deer Park; and Patti Guenther, Kettle Falls. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was unusually generous, kind, and an honest man. He will be missed tremendously by everybody who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Greenwood Cemetery in Hunters, followed by a lunch under the big pine tree. Friends are invited to attend and share memories.
