Richard Thompson

Richard Chapman Thompson passed away on August 30, 2013 in Colville. He was born on Feb. 23, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Fred and Gladys (Dill) Thompson.
Richard grew up in Iowa and relocated to Ione with his family when he was in the eighth grade. After graduating from high school in Ione, Richard enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, Richard attended and graduated from Eastern Washington University with a Master’s Degree and taught at elementary schools throughout Washington State.
He met Adele Hamilton while attending Eastern Washington University and the two were married on June 16, 1956. Upon his retirement, the couple made their home in Kettle Falls.
Richard had a true appreciation and love for the outdoors, which he gained from his first job while he was high school working for U.S. Forest Service. He also enjoyed camping, hiking, traveling, gardening, yard work, mechanic work, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Adele; brother-in-law, Tom Hamilton and wife, Eva Mae, Colville; nieces, Rose Marie, Doreen, Karen, and Donna; nephews, Denny, Mike and Pat; many friends and extended family.
There is no service for Mr. Thompson scheduled at this time.
