Riding in remembrance

Onlookers watched silently as motorcycles and classic cars rode through the south end roundabout in Colville for the 9/11 Memorial ride last Saturday. American Legion Riders and other area organizations and individuals joined together to ride from Colville to Deer Park and back again on the 10th anniversary of those who died in the Sept. 11. 2001 terrorist attacks. The group of motorists finished at Yep Kanum Park, were a ceremony was held to honor the victims of the attacks, including firemen, police officers and members of the United States Armed Forces who have lost their lives fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq since that day. According to ride chairman Paul Smith, around 280 vehicles participated in the memorial caravan. Smith added that he was grateful to the community members that lined the highway along the way and showed their support. “And I cannot say enough good things about our local police departments and the Colville Fire Department,” said Smith. “Those guys were great to us. Chief Meshishnek was very helpful in making sure this happened for us. We had a lot of good support.”
