Robert Ellis Ruff passed away on May 4, 2013 in Evans. He was born the son of Reuben and Edna Ruff on Jan. 12, 1919 in Montpelier, MN. Robert was best known in the community as â€śGrandpaâ€ť or â€śCowboy Bob.â€ť He would always greet you with a smile.
His family relocated to Washington State when he was very young, traveling cross-country from Minnesota in a Model T. The family settled in Zillah, where they raised their children on the family farm. Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country during World War II in the Samoa Islands and Philippines. Upon his honorable discharge, Bob returned to Washington, where he and his wife Bonnie raised their family and he supported them by working as a truck driver and as a farmer.
Bob and his family moved to the Rice area in 1980, and eventually settled in Evans in 1990. He had a love for horses, and living in beautiful Northeast Washington. Bob could be found every morning having breakfast and visiting with friends at the Little Gallea Restaurant in Kettle Falls.
Grandpa had an unconditional love for his family, a great apÂ¬preciation for his friends; he enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie in 1995.
He is survived by his daughter, Cairon McEwen, Evans; sons Bobby Ruff, Elk; Dennis Ruff and wife Lee, Vida, OR; grandchilÂ¬dren, Mark Miland and wife Angela, Kettle Falls; Duner McEwen and wife Cheryl, Kettle Falls; Shawna Thompson and husband Aaron, Spokane; seven great- grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was a true grandpa to everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed by all.
A celebration of life and potluck luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. on June 22 at the Kettle Falls American Legion Hall, 1057 Highway 395 North, Kettle Falls.
