Ruby Humphrey

Ruby M. Humphrey, a lifetime resident of Colville, passed away on Dec.12, 2013 in Colville at the age of 88. Ruby was born in Colville on Aug. 15, 1925, the daughter of Harry and Blanche (Baker) Wilson.
She began school at the Mill Creek School House and graduated in 1923 from the David Thompson High School in Colville. Following high school, Ruby worked at the Colville Hotel, Fonks and IGA Foods. It was while working at IGA Foods that she caught the eye of a young military man named Delbert Humphrey. They were soon courting and on Sept. 12, 1947 were united in marriage. Ruby and Delbert then began a family and raised their three children in the Colville area. Ruby worked in the home raising her children and helping with the needs of the farm.
Ruby enjoyed knitting, crochet, sewing, and music. She made most of her own clothing and kept her family warm and covered with her sewing abilities. Ruby had a great tenacity and helped on the ranch with all things, from bucking bails and nursing bummer lambs. She enjoyed socializing with the neighbors and sharing extra time with her grandchildren.
Ruby was a longtime member of the Arden Community Hall.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings, and in 2007, after 60 years of marriage, by her husband Delbert.
She is survived by her son, Allen Humphrey and his wife, Pam, Colville; two daughters, Debbie Johnson and her husband, Jim, Cheney; Janet Taylor and her friend, Jim, Norfolk, VA; grandchildren, Josh Gleave, Wyatt Humphrey and Kim Deardorff; and three great grandchildren.
The funeral service for Ruby M. Humphrey was held Dec. 17, 2013 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville. The graveside service and vault interment followed at the Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville.
Memorial contributions may be given to Pinewood Terrace Nursing Home.
