A record 47
campers participate

Colville High School senior to be Jammie Madonna’s Summer Skills Camp attracted 47 campers last week. Girls ages 6-13 from Colville, Kettle Falls, Chewelah, Inchelium and even Tacoma participated in the comprehensive softball skills camp last week.
Madonna, one of the top catchers returning to the high school ranks in Washington next season, put on the camp as her required CHS Senior Project.
Madonna said she was very pleased with the turnout and with all the help she got running the camp.
“Coaching the summer All Skills camp was an overall great experience,” Madonna said after it was all over. “I want to thank my teammates, McKenna Cabbage, Emily Poling, Chloe Baughn, Mckenna Iverson, Jalene Howell, Donielle Howell, April Hinds, Kayla Howes, Bonnie Carpenter, Makayla Carr (former CHS player) and coaches Jim Ebel, Kelly Weatherman and Mandy and Rob Sumner for everything they did to help out and make the camp easier and more efficient.”
Subway, Papa Murphy’s, Tony’s Ritz’s, Ronnie D’s, Pizza Factory, Taco Time, Mr. Sub and Westside Pizza also played a big role in the camp experience.
“In addition to all the help and the local businesses who played a big part in this, I want to thank the parents and grandparents for allowing the kids to participate,” Colville High softball coach Mandy Sumner added.
“It was challenging at times to manage such a large group, especially on Tuesday when rain took us into the gym. But our high school helpers and coaches did a fantastic job helping. We thank them so much.
“We also need to thank Sheila Madonna for taking pictures at camp every day to capture the project, and to Grandma Deanie’s for giving Jammie such a great deal on t-shirts, the Statesman-Examiner for helping market the camp, and to Keith Goodwin for helping where needed and supplying equipment need for the young ones.
