Robert L. Strauss, 88, was born April 30, 1921 and passed away on Sept. 14.
Bob was raised in Colville and graduated from Colville High School.  He attended the University of Washington and went into the U.S. Army Signal Corps and was stationed in Alaska.  After getting out of the service, he returned to Colville and went into business with his father, Louis, at the family business of Barmans Department Store.
Bob was very active in the Lions Club, Colville Chamber of Commerce, Ham radio (an operator for over 70 years), and Mt. Carmel Hospital Board of Trustees  He was also instrumental in starting the Colville Golf Course.
Bob also volunteered at the Arizona Science Center in the “Ham Shack” for 11 years.  He liked to help teach classes in ham radio.  
Bob is survived by his wife, Joan G Strauss, Phoenix Arizona; Kim Strauss, San Francisco; Leslie Romano and Jeff Strauss, both of Sandpoint, Idaho. Bob is also survived by five grand¬children.

A memorial will be held Summer 2010 at Lake Thomas.
