Kettle Falls High broke a long dry spell last Wednesday night at the Kettle Falls Middle School when the Bulldogs ran past Columbia High 54-39 in non-league boy’s basketball. Kasey Morgan scored 17 of his game-high 21 points in the second and third quarters to lift the Bulldogs (2-14) to a big win over Columbia (3-15). Morgan’s big game included a trio of three-pointers in the third quarter. Kettle Falls won this one in the second and third quarters, outscoring their Panorama 1B opponent 33-10. Luke Beardslee added 12 points for Kettle Falls. Last Tuesday in Northeast A League action, the Bulldogs lost at home to Chewelah, 71-45. Josh Christian led Chewelah with 18 points. Dallas Garner added 17 for the Cougars, who rolled to a 20-4 lead and made 26 of 49 field goal attempts. Morgan led Kettle Falls with 15 points. Beardslee added 12. On Friday night at Kettle Falls Middle School, Newport (7-12, 3-4) forced 29 turnovers and downed Kettle Falls, 59-41. Chaize Exkano and Clint Hunt led Newport with 16 points apiece. Morgan led Kettle Falls with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs, 0-6 in league play, will end their league season this week. KFHS was at The Hub in Spokane Valley on Tuesday night against Freeman (6-0, 14-4). The Scotties have already annexed the regular season Northeast A championship and will be top seeded into next week’s District 7 1A Tournament. On Friday, Kettle Falls will travel to Lakeside (3-3, 7-11) in their final game of the regular season. Game time is 5:45 p.m. The league tournament will start for the boys next Tuesday night when league no. 5 travels to no. 4 in a loser-out game. The tournament will move to Mead High School (Spokane) next Friday. Chewelah (4-3, 12-7) is currently second in the NEA. Lakeside is third and Newport is fourth.
