Michelle Bosequett enjoys running her Dominion View Daycare business just out of Colville. But April 22nd was a sad and worrisome day for this daycare provider when the family’s beloved blue healer was found shot just 20-feet from the children’s playground. Harley was six-years-old and loved not only by the family, but by all of the daycare children as well. He was known to pace the yard line as if keeping watch over the kids. It’s unknown at this time who shot the dog or why. Neighbors say the dog wasn’t one to roam the neighborhood or cause problems. The dog was shot just outside the yard fence in a field that the Bosequetts have permission to use at around 11 a.m.
The children saw the gruesome scene
Harley was found by Bosequett, and unfortunately some of the young daycare children, after returning from a walk to a nearby church playground. “I saw him lying down, went over and touched him. He didn’t budge, and then I knew he was gone,” said Bosequett. Sadly, it wasn’t just Bosequett that had to deal with seeing her beloved pet dead and bloody, but the children saw the gruesome scene as well. “They were screaming, they could see blood everywhere,” explained Bosequett. A local veterinarian confirmed through an autopsy that the pet was shot. Bosequett believes the dog was shot where he was found because of the large amount of blood at the scene and no blood trail found in the area. “I’ve lived here 15-years and this is the first time we’ve had this kind of problem,” said Bosequett. The Stevens County Sheriffs office was called and Officer Paul Murry responded to the call. Bosequett and daycare employee April Burch were not pleased with how the situation was handled “He snapped at us and was so rude, it felt like this just wasn’t important,” explained Burch who is not only an employee but the mother of one of the children present. No written statements from the staff were taken, although the officer did talk to at least one neighbor regarding the incident. “He never did come back to talk to me, just said I could take him (whoever shot the dog) to small claims court,” said Bosequett. The situation is bigger than just a dog shot; it’s about someone shooting so close to homes and toward a daycare playground in the middle of the day. “I fear for the daycare and neighborhood children. Kids ride their bikes, and young kids play all over this neighborhood. I’m also afraid for my other dog and the neighbor’s animals,” said Bosequett. Calls to Officer Paul Murry with the Stevens County Sheriff’s office for comment were not returned.
