Mary L. Barker, longtime resident of Colville passed away on May 5 in Chewelah, at the age of 71.  She was born on March 21, 1937 in Colville, the daughter of John and Frances Jeanette (Kagarice) Baynes.
As a young child, Mary moved to the Clayton area with her family.  There she attended school and graduated from Deer Park High School in 1955.  Following high school, she married her longtime sweetheart, Dick Barker on Aug. 21, 1955 in Deer Park.  They resided there for a time and then moved to Spokane for two years.  They had started a family and together they would move several more times, residing in the communities of Valley for four years, Tri-Cities, for two years and then eventually settling in and around the Colville area.  In 2000, they moved one last time to Addy, where they have resided since.  Mary found great comfort and satisfaction working in her home and tending to the needs of her family.
She enjoyed the occasional trips to the casinos to try her hand with Lady Luck.  She also enjoyed the yearly trip to Jackpot, NV.  Mary was always ready to have a good time and often chimed in with her “beat that one” approach.  She had a wonderful heart and enjoyed people.
Mary was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian, and four brothers, Bill, Emmett, Walt and Joe Baynes.
She is survived by her husband, Dick Barker, at the home; three daughters, Judy Couch-Brenner and her husband, Johnny, Kent; Sue Hawkins and her husband, Duane, Colville; Diane Peterson and her husband Don, Arlington; one son, Joe Barker and his wife, Trish, Colville; sisters, Virginia Warner, Kent; Agnes Dougherty and husband, Ralph, Deer Park; brothers, Jim Baynes, Clayton; Ralph Baynes and his wife, Norma, Deer Park, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A family gathering will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be given to the American Cancer Society.
Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
