It’ll be a big weekend with Bluegrass and annual fireworks show on July 4
The third annual Red, White and Bluegrass Family Pickin’ Party is coming up July 4-6 to the Northeast Wash¬ington Fair¬grounds. Gates will open at noon on Friday, July 4 with a $10 admission per per¬son or $15 for a family for all weekend. Included in the ad¬mission price will be workshops on sev¬eral acoustic bluegrass in¬stru¬ments as well as a photo work¬shop given by local photogra¬pher and author, Jeff Tetrick. The photo workshops will be available at 2 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. In¬strument workshops in guitar, banjo, bass, fiddle and mando¬lin are Saturday at 10 a.m.
Panhandle Polecats
The Panhandle Polecats will open the show on Friday eve¬ning at 5 p.m. This is a very popular family group from the Rathdrum Prairie. Some of the other bands to play Friday will be Kettle Creek, Dominion Mountain and Stony River. Saturday and Sunday morn¬ings will feature a free pancake breakfast. The Dominion Mountain Bluegrass Association will be accepting donations for the breakfast to go toward their scholarship fund. Two scholar¬ships will be given away this year to applicants 16 and under to use towards lessons in a bluegrass style instrument. “We are delighted to have the funds this year to make these scholarships possible. This has been our goal for the past 3 years and we are excited to see it happen” commented Joyce Foster, DMBA Secre¬tary/Treasurer. Some of the other events of the weekend will be the ever-popular “Band Scramble” where musicians put their name in a hat and several bands are drawn at random and must perform together after only an hour of practice. “This is such a fun event and a great ice breaker as many of the participants have never met before,” added David Engell, or¬ganizer of the event. The Flat Pick Guitar Contest will be back this year with a first place prize of $100 and a tro¬phy, thanks to The Bill Pratt family and the House of Music in Colville. Stage shows will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday with some great music from Red Wing, Blue Diamond Highway, Panhandle Polecats, Northern Underground, The Engell Family and Bruce and Betsy Mullen. There will be a raffle drawing again this year for a beautiful Johnson guitar valued at over $700. Tickets are available now at many local businesses, including the House of Music and Colville Chamber of Commerce, as well as during the event.
Breakfast
Sunday will bring another de¬licious breakfast donated by Super One Foods. The break¬fast will begin at 7:30 a.m., fol¬lowed by an Open Mic Gospel Sing. “Many Bluegrass enthusiasts will enjoy gathering for a fun-filled weekend making new friends and jamming with old ones in a wholesome family at¬mosphere,” Engell said.
