Colville Park hosts annual celebration August 1, 2 and 3
BY SOPHIA ALDOUS S-E Staff Reporter
The annual Rendezvous Celebration will take over the Colville City Park again start¬ing Friday, August 1, and ending Sunday, August 3. The event is free to the public and will feature food and craft vendors as well as live music from local and regional bands. “I think we’ll have some¬thing to offer everybody,” said Rendezvous Days Committee member and Colville Chamber of Commerce Office Manager Tricia Woods. “This celebra¬tion has been around a long time, and the fact that it’s still here is a testament to the area.” Rendezvous Days kicks off Thursday, July 31 with the Kiwanis Beef Barbecue from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased from Colville Kiwanis members or at the barbecue. Other featured attractions at Rendezvous Days this year will be the 2008 Battle of the Bands from noon to 4 p.m. on Aug. 2. Competing bands include King Mantra of Colville, Poor Devils of Colville, Guilty Con¬science of Chewelah and Small Town Nation of Spo¬kane. Last year’s Battle of the Band winner Captain Cyrus and The Crew will perform Friday, August 1, followed by the popular band Too Slim and the Tail Draggers. A Farmer’s Market will also take place that Saturday morning, along with the dis¬trict swim meet and Bob Haney Memorial Baseball Tournament for ages 12 and under. A Classic Car Show will be on Sunday, August 3. Those interested in partici¬pating in the car show should contact Bryan at Casey’s AutoFab at 684-3130. Woods said that the RDC was especially thankful to the Colville City Parks Depart¬ment, the YCC Group from the Little Pend Oreille Na¬tional Wildlife Refuge and vol¬unteers who worked tirelessly to clean the park up after the tree-toppling wind storm ear¬lier this month, which caused numerous tree limbs and branches to fall in Colville Park. “They all worked really hard to make sure the park is ready for our festival,” said Woods.
Food, music and more… The Community Worship Service held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 3 will feature guest speaker Walid Shoebat, a Pal¬estinian and born-again Christian who was born in Bethlehem and lived a life of violence and rioting in Bethle¬hem and the Temple Mount. Shoebat will share his story of going from hatred to love and acceptance, after a 1978 mis¬sion where he was sent to kill Jews. The worship service will take place at the Main Pavil¬ion of Colville City Park. Schedule of events Thursday, July 31 Kiwanis Beef Barbecue 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
