2008 Ranger-Guided programs Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 August 2008

On Thursday, August 7 at 5:30 p.m., there will be a Prescribed Fire Staff Walk. Please take advantage of this tremendous opportunity to Experience Your America and join Ranger Loren Atherley, a certified Wildland Firefighter, on a guided walk through the pros and cons, benefits and consequences of fire management for the past 80 years.  Meet at the North District Visitor Information Center (200 feet north of the Kettle Falls Marina) at 5:30 pm, rain or shine.  Please bring water, good shoes (hiking boots preferred) and weather appropriate clothing, as we will be outdoors.
On Friday, August 8 at 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the public will have a chance to explore the Sunday Mine.  Join Ranger Loren on a spirited hike high above Lake Roosevelt and discover the secrets of the Sunday Mine.
One of the few hard rock mine claims within the boundary of Lake Roosevelt NRA, the Sunday Mine is a wealth of discovery, in history as well as industry.  If you are interested in learning more about mining, geology, history or simply looking for some exercise, meet the National Park Service at the Kettle Falls Visitor Information Center, 100 ft. North of the Kettle Falls Marina.  Hiking shoes, water, a snack, sunscreen and good health required, THIS IS AN ARDUOUS HIKE. 3.5 hours
For more information on any of these programs call (509) 738-6266 ext. 164.
