The auction results in the 2008 Northeast Washington Fair ‘Big Tree’ Auction: • Top bid for the Grand Champion tree grown by Tyrone Swan of Inchelium High School was purchased for $1,300 by Vaagen Brothers Lumber. • Second place tree raised by Boy Scout Troop 965 purchased by Forest Capital Partners for $500. • Third place tree raised by Inchelium High School purchased by Boise for $475. • Fourth place tree raised by Inchelium High School purchased by Forest Capital Partners for $350. • Fifth place tree raised by Boy Scout Troop 965 purchased by Boise for $350. • Sixth place tree raised by Boy Scout Troop 965 was purchased by Forest Capital Partners for $340. • Seventh place tree raised by Inchelium High School was purchased by Vaagen Bros Lumber for $400. • Eighth place tree raised by Boy Scout Troop 965 was purchased by Forest Capital Partners for $300. • Ninth place tree raised by Inchelium High School was purchased by Boise for $300. • Tenth place tree raised by Valley Comm. 4-H was purchased by Forest Capital Partners for $200. Society of American Foresters donated $200 to be distributed evenly between seventh through tenth place winners. In addition to the support of the auction, the auction thanks Columbia Cedar, Gardner Logging and Hansen Logging for their donations towards the Big Tree prize fund. Also, auctioneer Ron Eslick for volunteering his services. Once the trees were judged, the prize money was distributed among the top five individuals who raised the trees: 1st: Inchelium High School, Tyron Swan $50 2nd: Boy Scout Troop 965, Austin Anderson $25 3rd: Inchelium High School, Tresa $25 4th: Inchelium High School, Logan $25 5th: Boy Scout Troop 965, Austin Anderson $25 Austin Anderson, boy Scout Troop 965, received $25 for best Educational Poster. Carlene Collen, Valley Community 4-H, received $25 for best Decorated Bucket. The benefits of a prepared, knowledgeable student and eventual employee are all aspects valued and recognized by the community. The ‘Big Tree’ contest and auction helps kids to focus on what makes up a greater part of this region’s economy.
