Wayne Keeney

June 27, 2013

Wayne M. Keeney of Colville passed away on June 18, 2013 at the age of 85. His wife of 59 years, Elna G. Keeney (Andy), preceded him in death in 2007. One surviving sibling is Betty Lou Irwin of Carriere, MS. Surviving sons are Wayne D. Keeney of Colville and Dave Keeney of Gulfport, MS. Grandchildren include Tim Tommerup of Lincoln, NE; Douglas Keeney of Colville; Adrianne Keeney of Denver, CO. and Aaron Keeney of Gulfport, MS. Great-grandchildren are Ty, Devin and Emmie Tommerup of Lincoln, NE. Wayne was a US Navy veteran of WW II, the Korean War, and was a member of American Legion Post No. 144 in Metaline Falls. He served aboard the USS Wiseman DE 667 and was honorably discharged thereafter. He spent his life doing a myriad of jobs, including farming, retail business (Panorama Hut 1970 Colville), US Forest Service and primarily as a barber. He had his own barbershops in Longview, Woodland, Colville and Ione. If his customers couldn’t come to him, he went to them, whether in their homes, hospitals or convalescent centers. A military veteran would never pay for his haircut in his shop. He will be laid to rest in the Metaline Cemetery, overlooking the mountains and rivers that brought so much delight to our dad.
