The S-E asked followers of our Facebook page what they think about I-1163 (see accompanying story in this week's S-E) concerning the state requiring more training and extensive background checks for home care aides. Here’s what they had to say:
"If they’re going to add more requirements they might want to raise the pay. One can already barely survive working as a home care aide as it is."- Philana Andreason
"I am a caregiver and it affects many of us!!! Training is great but the agencies only pay so much and when we have to pay union dues along with whatever else is required, you don't make much. Plus, driving 30-50 miles to work for three hours; you tell me is it worth it?"- Sabrina Reeser
"Regulate, regulate, and regulate. If they need more training, why not give it to the Legislature to stay the hell out of people’s business? They do not need to govern every little tiny detail. Let people make a few bucks right now and not cost them more money."- Kristen McKellar
