Who needs the Dream Duals? Colville wins in Vancouver

January 28, 2014

The Colville High wrestling team tuned for its Great Northern League dual meet finale Saturday afternoon at Clarkston with a big win in the Heritage Invitational Tournament at Vancouver last weekend.

While the schedule indicated that Colville High would be in the Dream Duals field at East Valley High School last Saturday, in reality, the Indians were competing in a much bigger and more prestigious tournament in Vancouver (Heritage High School).
CHS, who will finish second in the Great Northern League dual meet standings on Saturday if they can get past host Clarkston High (the junior varsity match-up is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start. Varsity will follow), didn’t need the Dream Duals (won by host East Valley). The Indians were a perfect 5-0 in the high-powered Heritage Invitational and downed Class 4A Pasco 53-21 in the championship finals to bring home the title hardware.
CHS head coach Randy Cloke was unavailable for comment on Monday.
In their opener, CHS upset powerhouse Union, 38-31, and followed that up with a 63-18 lacing of Franklin Pierce before easing past Camas, 45-30, in round three.
In the fourth round, Colville beat North Mason, 54-21, before beating Pasco in the finals.
Heritage finish: 1. Colville. 2. Pasco. 3. Union. 4. Fife. 5. Camas. 6. Forks. 7. Heritage. 8. North Mason. 9. Franklin Pierce. 10. Hockinson.
The win on the coast was an energizing tune-up for Saturday’s GNL dual finale with upstart Clarkston and the Feb. 7-8 District 7 2A Tournament at East Valley High School.
