The Colville City Police, with assistance from the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol and the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response, are conducting a homicide investigation in Colville. On Jan. 10 at approximately 8:20 a.m., Colville Police responded to a call and located a deceased 56-year-old David Barr at 2072 ½ West 2nd.
Barr was found dead with signs of trauma to his head and neck, says Stevens County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Rasmussen.
Booked into the Stevens County Jail on 2nd Degree Murder charges is Deena L. Bailey, 49. She appeared in front of Stevens County District Court Judge Gina Tviet Friday morning, where her bond was set at $1 million. An autopsy was conducted on Barr Friday. Though a toxicology report has yet to be completed, Rasmussen says alcohol was involved in the homicide and that Barr and Bailey are related, though he did not specify how.
"I am pleased that the all the different law enforcement offices worked so well together," states Rasmussen.
Bailey is tentatively scheduled to appear in Stevens County Superior Court on Jan. 29.
The last reported unjustified homicide in Colville was when James Swinney plead guilty to death by controlled substances in the case of Tamara Anderson, who died from a drug overdose in the fall of 2010. The drugs were provided to her by Swinney, who plead guilty to the charges on March 22, 2011.
