Two suspects rob Orin Rice Road home

Local law enforcement is asking anyone with information regarding a Monday morning robbery on Orin Rice Road to contact the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Sheriff Kendle Allen, an armed robbery occurred at the Panorama Mobile Home Park off Orin Rice Road around 2 a.m. Monday, July 6. Two suspects, thought to be men, broke into the home of a couple that manages the mobile home park. Both of the suspects wore masks, and one allegedly had a firearm.
Allen said the couple was not injured during the robbery.

Williams Lake Road fire contained

Crews continue to work on the Williams Lake Road fire, which started around 2:50 p.m. last Friday north of Colville. High temperatures, dry brush, and steep terrain presented a challenge to firefighters as they at¬tempted to quell the fire that was visible from Colville.
According to Incident Information Officer Jeff Sevigney, most of the fire activity remained on the ground as of Sunday evening.
The fire was 40 percent contained as of late last Sunday.

Halfway house comes to Colville

A new halfway house for men recovering from drug and alcohol addiction is opening its doors in Colville. Located across from Providence Mount Carmel Hospital on Columbia Street, the house was purchased by Barry and Shelley Bacon. The couple is renting the house to Oxford House, Inc.

"There's nothing like it that I know of in the Tri-County area," said Dr. Barry Bacon, who volunteers to work with drug addicts in the Stevens County jail. "It's a chance to try and help people and save the taxpayers' money."
