Walk n' Wag this Saturday

Have a dog, want a dog, or just like animals in general? The Colville Valley Animal Sanctuary is holding its 3rd annual Walk 'n' Wag 5k run/walkathon Saturday, April, 11 at 10 a.m. in Yep Kanum Park in Colville. There will be prizes, raffles, pet-themed contests, a BBQ, and refreshments. The first 50 participants to raise $50 in pledges will receive a CVAS t-shirt. Pets are welcome, but please have them on a leash (you do not need a dog to participate). All funds raised will go toward CVAS.

The Chewelah Lions Club is looking to rekindle a Lions Club in Colville after it closed several years ago due to lack of membership.
The next organizational / informational meeting April 9, Thursday
at Maverick's in Colville from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Please feel free to invite friends, family, neighbors, or other business acquaintance who might be interested in joining.
Lions Club International allows volunteers to serve their community and their world in a variety of ways, and caters that volunteerism to individual lifestyles.

Germanwings Flight 9525 Crashes in French Alps With 150 People Onboard

An Airbus with 150 people onboard crashed in the southern French Alps on Tuesday, officials said. The A320, operated by Lufthansa’s budget airline Germanwings, was flying from Barcelona to Dusseldorf and went down in the Digne region of the Alps-De-Haute Province, according to Reuters. There were 144 passengers, two pilots and four crew members, Germanwings said. "We are sorry to confirm that flight 4U9525 is an accident," the airline said on Twitter.

Deadline for Photo contest extended

It's time once again for the Statesman-Examiner's annual photography contest. The S-E is looking for photos of the Panorama Land area (Stevens, Ferry, and Pend Orielle Counties). Area events, wildlife, landscapes, landmarks, or other Panorama Land photographs you would like to share are all eligible. Grand Prize is $100 cash, First Place is $75, Second Place is $50 and Third Place is $25. Photo winners will be published in the Statesman-Examiner.
