Lions Club looking for members

The Chewelah Lions Club is looking to rekindle a Lions Club in Colville after it closed several years ago due to lack of membership.
A public meeting will be held Tuesday, March 31 at 6 p.m. at The HUB Community Center in Colville for those interested in joining.
Lions Club International allows volunteers to serve their community and their world in a variety of ways, and caters that volunteerism to individual lifestyles.

Rally raises awareness about child abuse

With April on the horizon, spring is in the air and people are looking forward to warm days and gardening.
However, local child and family advocates have a specific garden in mind that they are hoping the community will support.
On Wednesday, April 1 at noon, Stevens County CASA, Rural Resources Victim Services, and the Colville branch of the Department of Social Health and Services (DSHS), will plant a pinwheel garden on the front lawn of the Stevens County Courthouse in honor of April’s designation as Child Abuse Awareness month.

Germanwings Flight 9525 Crashes in French Alps With 150 People Onboard

An Airbus with 150 people onboard crashed in the southern French Alps on Tuesday, officials said. The A320, operated by Lufthansa’s budget airline Germanwings, was flying from Barcelona to Dusseldorf and went down in the Digne region of the Alps-De-Haute Province, according to Reuters. There were 144 passengers, two pilots and four crew members, Germanwings said. "We are sorry to confirm that flight 4U9525 is an accident," the airline said on Twitter.

Miss Kettle Royalty take their final bows

The Miss Kettle Falls Scholarship Program (MKFSP) is gearing up for another year, but before a new community ambassador is crowned, the 2014 royalty will have a chance to say their goodbyes.
The Miss Kettle Falls Program will be Saturday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Kettle Falls Middle School gymnasium. The theme is "V.I.P." and tickets are available at Kettle Falls Pharmacy.
2014 Miss Kettle Falls Cayla Hammond and Alternate Peyton Tucker will take their final walk and bows as Kettle Falls Royalty before new community representatives are selected.

Deadline for Photo contest extended

It's time once again for the Statesman-Examiner's annual photography contest. The S-E is looking for photos of the Panorama Land area (Stevens, Ferry, and Pend Orielle Counties). Area events, wildlife, landscapes, landmarks, or other Panorama Land photographs you would like to share are all eligible. Grand Prize is $100 cash, First Place is $75, Second Place is $50 and Third Place is $25. Photo winners will be published in the Statesman-Examiner.
