July 11, 2014

A 15-year-old foreign exchange student from South Korea drowned near Northport late Thursday afternoon, according to the Stevens County Sheriff's Department.
"From my understanding of the situation, a small group of teenagers was swimming near the boat launch in Northport City Park when the young man (exchange student) became tired and went under the water," Allen said Friday morning. "Another youth was swimming with him, and made it back to shore. They were about 15 to 20 feet out in the water."
The teenager was staying with a host family in Northport.

He will start Thursday, July 10 in the afternoon and finish around 5 p.m. Friday, July 11.
“There will be a lot of coffee,” laughs Lasater, when asked how he plans to stay motivated for the entire 24-hours.

Municipal Services Administrator Eric Durpos recently announced at a public meeting to discuss water conservation that the city wants to work with residents toward that goal.
