Guess what time it is? If that guess were it’s time for the annual Stevens County Relay for Life, it would be correct. The fundraiser is scheduled to start tonight, June 24 and end Saturday, June 25 at the Colville High School track. All proceeds benefit cancer research through the American Cancer Society.
According to SCRFL Event Chair Nikole Morrison, there are 38 teams currently registered to participate in this year’s Relay.
“I think that’s the most we’ve ever had,” says Morrison. “It’s a wonderful turnout.’
Last year’s fundraising efforts brought in $70,000, Morrison said. This time around, Morrison says SCRFL is aiming for a monetary goal of $60,000. Though the local Relay has raised over $100,000 in the past, Morrison says the SCRFL committee is asking only for what people can afford to give.
“We’re setting our goals realistically, with how our economy is,” says Morrison. “Money is tight for everybody right now, so we just appreciate every penny we get.”
Luminaries are currently being sold at AmericanWest Bank, Key Bank, Bank of America, AIA Insurance, Pratt/Anderson Insurance and other area businesses. Luminaries will also be sold onsite at RFL until 8 p.m. on Friday.
