There are ample opportunities to honor our country’s veterans this week as Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, draws closer.
Veterans Day is an annual United States holiday honoring military veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on Nov. 11. It is also celebrated as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world and falls on Nov. 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.
Colville High School will hold a Veterans Day Assembly to honor local veterans Thursday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. Area veterans are invited to enjoy coffee before the beginning of the program, which will take place in the CHS gymnasium.

Colville Junior High School wlll also hold a Veteran’s Day Assembly Nov. 10 at 1:45 p.m. Veterans and the public are invited to attend.

The Kettle Falls School District will hold a Veteran’s Day assembly at the Kettle Falls Middle School Gymnasium Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 12:30 p.m. Area veterans and the public are invited to attend.

There will also be a ceremony honoring veterans on the Stevens County Courthouse lawn, Friday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.
An annual tradition, the ceremony is sponsored by the American Legion Frank Starr Post No. 47 in Colville. There will be speeches, display of a memorial wreath, flag cere¬mony and taps played. The public is invited to the American Legion Hall from 12:30 to 2 p.m. for chili and hotdogs after the ceremony.
The ceremony is a rain or shine event and the public is encouraged to attend.
