Minnie Domenica Regis Lang, 97, a resident of Colville, passed away on Nov. 3, 2011. She was born on Dec. 14, 1913 in Pheonix, B.C. Canada, the daughter of John Batista Regis and Louise (Golletti) Regis.
Minnie moved to Spokane with her family as an infant. She attended first through sixth grade at the McKinley Grade School and then graduated from Libby Junior High School. Minnie then stayed at home to help her mother and family.
At the age of 17, Minnie married Albert H. Lang. Together they resided in Spokane where they built, owned and operated the “River Tavern” after prohibition in the late 1930s; she and Albert also opened the Waterfront Cafe, located directly across from their tavern. They also built an apartment complex on the same block as the River Tavern. During those years, they also had a resort on Silver Lake called “Picnic Pines” and another resort located on the Spokane River near the Valley Mall called “The Rapids.” They had 100 acres on the Spokane River in Post Falls, Idaho, which they called the “Stump Ranch.” They had built a rock cabin and a barn and had horses. They spent the weekends there and rode their horses, swam in the river and pond and enjoyed life!
Throughout the years, they sold the businesses and began their retirement. In 1975, Minnie returned to work as a cook for Ferris High School. It wasn’t until she was 62 that she retired a second time.
Albert preceded her in death in 1988. She continued to live independently in Spokane for several years before moving to the Wind River Retirement community. In 2010, she moved to Colville where she could be closer to her family.
Minnie loved to share time with family. She and Albert traveled often to visit relatives. She also spent countless hours sewing and crocheting many items as family gifts. The numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren benefited from her giving nature and love of shopping. She gave special attention to her beautiful rose garden and took wonderful care of her cats and dogs. Her loving and compassionate character will be dearly missed.
Minnie served on the election board for over 20 years while in Spokane.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, and her five brothers, John, Victor, Joe, Peter, and Julius.
Minnie is survived by her son, Al and Catherine Lang, Colville; and grandchildren: Alan Lang, Trent and Janae Lang, Teresa Lang, Chad and Anne Lang, Angie and Jacob Keith , Ryan and Marcy Lang, Christy and Tony Gorst, and Katy Lang, and 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
