Will M. Christian, a longtime resident of Colville, passed away on March 26, 2012 in Colville after a long illness with Alzheimer’s. He was born on Feb. 8, 1966 in Colville, the son of Glenn and Dianne (Terry) Christian.
When he was two-weeks-old, the family moved to the Seattle area where he was raised and attended school in Renton until the age of 16. While in school, Will enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and soccer in the city leagues.
Will spent his summers with his grandparents in Colville where he worked on the dairy alongside his uncles. At the age of 16, he began farming with his grandfather and continued to farm through college. Their family returned to Colville in 1982. Will played high school football and graduated from Colville High School in 1984. He then returned to Seattle to attend the University of Washington. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and served as their president during his senior year. In 1988 Will received his Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Communication and Political Science.
He married Sandra Gallagher in March 1991. They moved to Spokane where Will earned his masters degree. He worked for a number of years with Washington State Child Support Enforcement. Will also ran for State Representative in the Puyallup district, but lost.
His marriage to Sandra ended in 1999, but they remained very close friends throughout the years.
Will attended Western Washington Uni¬versity to attain his teaching certificate. To make sure his wanted to teach, he moved to South Korea, where he taught English. Upon returning to the United States, Will realized he was having memory problems and went to the University of Washington for testing. He was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. Will moved back to Colville to spend the remaining years nearer to his family. He knew that he could not beat his disease, but he put every effort into holding it off. Will occupied his time with work at the dairy, time in the gym, bowling, reading and brain exercises. His failing health required greater attention and he was placed in the Special Care Unit at Pinewood Nursing Home, where he was very happy and received excellent care.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Christian and grandmother, Marilyn Christian; grandfathers, Dee Terry and James Christian, and by an uncle, Dan Terry.
Will is survived by his mother, Diane Christian, Colville; brother, James Christian, Colville; grandmother, Lois Terry, Colville; special friend, Sandra Gallagher and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 31 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville. Father Kevin Oiland will celebrate the Mass. Graveside service and vault interment will follow at the Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville.
Memorial contributions may be given to either the Special Care Unit at Pinewood Nursing Home and/or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
