Kettle Falls moves up in standings
Kettle Falls High, back to full strength for the first time since March, swept Reardan 10-4, 10-0 in a Northeast 2B fast-pitch softball doubleheader last Tuesday.
Krislin McInelly, back in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs, was solid if not impressive against a slumping Reardan team that recently lost their top pitcher to a broken hand.
The Northeast 2B season heads into its final week. The Lady Bulldogs trail Northwest Christian and Colfax in the standings.
Wins over Davenport and Springdale this week could vault KFHS into sole possession of third place heading into the District 7 2B Tournament in two weeks at the Merkel Complex in Spokane. The top three teams from the NE 2B will qualify for the State 2B Tournament in Yakima.
Kettle Falls hosted Davenport on Tuesday in a NE 2B doubleheader. The Lady Bulldogs will conclude the league season on Saturday when they host Springdale in a doubleheader that starts at noon.
KFHS will host Omak in a non-league make-up game on May 9 (4:30 p.m.).
Kettle playing its best softball of the season right now
“We are back at full strength and playing well,” KFHS head coach Amy Owens said earlier this week. “Having our full team has made a huge difference in our play and in our attitudes.
“We have tightened up our defense and the girls are really working well as a team right now. I am excited.”
In the opener against Reardan, McInelly struck out 11, scattered eight hits and didn’t issue a walk. In game two, she struck out four, issued one walk and gave up only two hits.
Kettle Falls (7-7, 4-4) backed McInelly with eight hits in the opener. KFHS led 2-0 heading into the fourth inning, when they erupted for five more runs. The Lady Bulldogs added two more in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Kettle Falls took advantage of six hit batters and five walks by Reardan pitchers.
In game two, the Lady Bulldogs broke out the lumber, collecting 16 hits. Delaney Robertson led the way with a pair of doubles. McInelly, Emily Owens and Serena Pounds also doubled for Kettle Falls.
Katy Harris and Sam Adams both had three hits to lead Kettle.
