Margelene L. Snyder went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, in her home in Asotin. She died of natural causes at the age of 89.
She was the first born to Art and Ellen Earl, March 19, 1923, at the old Lewiston Hospital on Main Street. She attended schools at Tammany, and finished at Lewiston schools through 12th grade.
She started work away from her parents home at a young age, taking care of children for Wallace Halsey, helping cook for the harvest crew at the upper ranch. She always helped at home with the younger brothers and sisters. She worked as assistant manager at Woolworth’s. She married Frank R. Snyder May 7, 1944, at Lewiston. She went to be with Frank in Ogden, Utah, until his discharge from U.S. Navy in 1946.
In 1946, they moved to Kooskia and farmed until 1948. They moved to Paradise, Ore., and ranched there for a year. In 1949, they moved to Lewiston. She worked at various jobs, as a cook and helped in school activity.
In 1963, they moved to Kettle Falls and operated a restaurant. In 1971, they moved to Asotin where she did child care, a mail route which covered Anatone, the Grande Ronde River area, even up to Joseph Creek. She worked for the Asotin County Juvenile Court.
She enjoyed her church, friends, family, fishing, embroidery, gardening, bird watching (especially hummingbirds from her table where she could see them).
She is survived by a daughter, LaVaughn Keenan, Kettle Falls; two sons, Frank A. Snyder, Clarkston; Earl Snyder, Chewelah; two brothers, Howard Earl, Clarkston and Bob Earl, Lewiston; two sisters, Darlene Hostetler,f Asotin and Ena Mae Palmer, Oregon City, OR. She has nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank R. Snyder; two brothers, Junior Earl and Lee Earl; and one sister, Sharon Randall.
A viewing was held last Thursday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston. Graveside service was held on Saturday at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston, following by memorial service at Clarkston Community Baptist Church.
