Burl Glen Fowler, longtime resident of Colville, passed away Oct. 20, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Spokane after an eight-month battle with cancer.
Burl was born March 1, 1966 to John and Shirley Fowler in Las Vegas, Nevada. Growing up in a Navy family, they moved often, but primarily were based in Western Washington, where Burl attended North Kitsap High School.
In 1984 Burl enlisted in the Navy as an equipment operator in the Seabees and served until his death. While in the Navy, Burl achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class and toured in Midway, Spain, Kuwait and Afghanistan. During his most recent tour in Afghanistan, Burl received several combat action ribbons and the Army Achievement Medal.
In 1988, Burl moved to Colville where he met and married Diana Sell. They were married for 17 years and had one son, John, who was born in 1991. Burl was very involved with his son’s life and coached several of his baseball and soccer teams. He also loved to camp and fish and played coed softball and volleyball. He worked at Boise Cascade for 24 years, where he became Lead Boiler Operator. Following his tour in Afghanistan, Burl lived with his loving companion, Cindy Shaw, in Kettle Falls until his death.
Burl is survived by his son, John; by his parents, John and Shirley; by his brother, Steve and his wife Kathy; sister, Leigh and her husband, Bob, all from Colville; his girlfriend, Cindy, of Kettle Falls, and numerous other close family and friends.
Burl was a very hard-working, selfless, and loyal man. He was always there to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. Burl was loved by all that knew him and will be dearly missed.
A funeral service will be held Nov. 10, 1 p.m. at the Colville Cemetery, followed by a celebration of Burl’s life at KC’s Diner in Kettle Falls at 3 p.m.
