Dan V. Montgomery passed away Nov. 19 in Lewiston, Idaho, at the age of 89. He was born to Guy and Lena Fager Montgomery on March 6, 1923 in Colville.
He graduated from Colville High School in 1941 and attended one year at Washington State University before entering the U.S. Army.
He served in both Europe and the South Pacific during World War II. He finished his education at WSU, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry in 1949. He started his career as assistant ranger at the Colville National Forest and Nez Perce National Forest and then became ranger at Priest Lake.
Dan married Marjorie H. Claar on March 30, 1961, and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by his brother, Robert Montgomery and wife Agnes of Yuma, Arizona; his sister, Blanche Goodfellow of Wenatchee; his stepson, Willis Claar and wife, Rachel of White Bird; and his grandchildren, Laurie Franzen and Kimberly Claar of Spokane, and Sonya Tee of Yakima. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Wayne Claar.
Arrangements for cremation are at Malcom’s Brower-Wann Funeral Home, Lewiston. No memorial service is planned.
