Jerry R. Starr, 71, suffered a heart attack and passed away on Jan. 29, 2013. Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife Margie, sister Kathryn Hammond, aunt Patricia Kingsbury and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jerry’s passing was preceded by his mother, Mary Merle Starr/Johnson, brother, Cameron Johnson, and by the death of his step-father, Ret. Col. Charles Johnson.
Jerry attended elementary and secondary schools in Colville where he graduated in 1959 (Colville High School). He was well known and respected by his classmates for his talent in sports, music, and extracurricular activities. Jerry was active in sports and was instrumental in taking Colville to the 1959 State Basketball Tournament. He also played trumpet in Mr. Field’s high school band, knocking the socks off an astounded concert audience by playing “Trumpeter’s Holiday” duet.
Jerry’s extracurricular activities weren’t known to all, but many knew his legendary ’57 Chevy and prowess at the makeshift drag strip by the old graveyard. Jerry loved to fly, on the ground and in the air. His pas¬sion for flying was realized when he became a pilot, instructor, and eventually played a key part in Spokane Airways. Following retirement from flying, Jerry re¬sumed his passion for classic, fast cars by restoring vintage Corvettes. He was also a great friend to his dogs.
Jerry will be missed by many. An opportunity to join in his memory is being planned and will be announced at a future date. Please contact Karol Price at email@example.com if you wish to be notified.
