Elizabeth Helen Egger passed away in Colville on May 2, 2013. She was born the daughter of Phillip Francis and Ellen Teresa (Murray) Buckley on March 4, 1923 in Havre, MT. She was the youngest of seven children. After high school, she attended and graduated from Kinman’s Business College in Spokane. Helen married Louis Egger on December 1, 1942. Louis was a mortician and co-owned Moser-Egger Funeral Home, and later Louis and Helen owned and operated Egger Furniture. Helen and Louis had seven children, three of whom preceded her in death in early childhood.
Helen was very involved in civic activities. She taught Catechism for 32 years, volunteered at the Colville Public Library and Providence Mt. Carmel Hospital. Helen and Louis were active in helping school levies pass, going door to door to procure votes. She participated in P.E.O. and served as past president. Helen was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville, Catholic Daughters of America, Altar & Rosary Society, 8-11 Study Club, Mount Carmel Hospital Auxiliary, and Dominicare Board.
Helen and her husband enjoyed traveling. She was an avid bridge player and when she was younger, she enjoyed bowling, golfing, and snow skiing in Canada, Washington, Montana and Colorado.
Helen’s nephew, Phil Anderson, his wife Patti and their family were an important part of her daily life. Helen’s children are deeply appreciative of all of her caregivers and friends who supported and comforted her throughout her life.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis, in 1997.
She is survived by her daughters, Terry Armstrong and husband Ed, Grand Junction, CO; Colleen Egger and husband Jeff Miller, Snohomish; sons John Egger and wife Dianne, Hillsborough, NC; Phillip Egger, Bellevue; 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Helen was held on Monday, May 6 at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville, followed by a graveside service at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane.
