Carol Gene McKinney (Porter) went to Heaven on May 22, 2013. She was born on August 3, 1944 in St. Maries, Idaho to George and Violet Porter. She graduated from Deary High School in 1962. She married the love of her life, Roy B. McKinney Jr., in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho on Jan. 9, 1963. They lived in and around the Spokane area while finally settling with their four children in Kettle Falls in 1970.
Carol started her career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1979 and retired after 30 years of dedicated service with the Kettle Falls Post Office in August, 2009. After retirement, Carol volunteered time at the Kettle Falls Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She looked forward to spring and summer months where she could spend time working in her flower gardens. She loved camping and fishing as well as traveling to visit family and friends. She loved music and dancing, knitting and sewing and she loved putting together puzzles and playing games. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and the time she shared with her family during the holidays. She especially loved time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching their sporting events, concerts, dancing and horse riding. She also enjoyed drives around Kettle Falls and taking walks down at Locust Grove.
Carol will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, laughter and unwavering commitment to her family and friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Roy B. McKinney Jr., and their poodle, Eddie; her parents, George and Violet Porter; siblings, Laurel, Martha and Dennis (Punky) Porter.
She is survived by her four children, Lisa J. McKinney, of Kettle Falls; Patricia A. and husband, Loren Erdman, Colville; Neal M. McKinney, Roslyn; and Thomas R. McKinney and Cameron Santiago, Los Angeles; her grandchildren, Kaylynn R. Scott and Cailen McCurdy, Colville; Keshya M. Kilgore, Kettle Falls; Brandon K. Kilgore, Kettle Falls; Miranda S. McKinney, Spokane; Hayden M. and Hannah J. Hartman, Colville; great-grandchildren, Teryn J. and Ayven R. McCurdy, Colville; Cameron K. LeBret, Kettle Falls and Raiden M. Kilgore, Kettle Falls. She is also survived by sisters, Georgina Kendall and husband Bill, College Place; Gloria Brown of Vancouver, and brother, George Porter, Orofino, ID.
A very special thank you to lifelong friends, Dale and Judy Mitchell, Loren and Patricia Guenther, and Kelly Glidewell, Ellen Ballance and Ardella Fleck, all from Hospice of Spokane, who took such amazing care of our mother while she was at home.
A memorial celebrating Carol’s life and reception will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 30 at the Gateway Assembly of God Church, 180 W. 5th, Kettle Falls.
If one so wishes, memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s name to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
