James “Jim” D. Christian, a resident of Colville, passed away on Nov. 5, 2013 in Medical Lake at the age of 44. Jim was born on Feb. 15, 1969 in Seattle, the son of Glenn Michael and Diane Marie (Terry) Christian.
Jim spent his early years in Renton, where he at¬tended school through the eighth grade. When Jim was 13, his family moved to Colville, where he finished his education and gradu¬ated from Colville High School in 1987.
In January 1988, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served for five years as a storekeeper on submarines. During his six- month deploy¬ments at sea, Jim visited many ports and places, including San Diego, Hawaii, San Francisco, Guam, Philippi¬nes, Australia, Alaska and Japan. He was stationed in Hawaii. He enjoyed the opportunity to travel while serving his country.
While sta¬tioned in San Diego, Jim married Tisha Ashpole, but the marriage ended in divorce. He was honorably dis¬charged in October 1992 and returned to Colville. Jim then began long-haul trucking throughout the Western United States and into Canada. He relocated to Seattle, where he drove truck for a food delivery company, making trips between the United States and Canada. Jim’s days of driving truck ended when he accepted a job with the Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing Company. He worked for Boeing for a couple of years and then took a position with the Washington State Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island.
While working for Washington State, Jim was diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimer’s disease and retired into the care of his mother in Colville. He was very familiar with this disease, for it had already claimed the lives of his father and brother. Jim’s fight with Alzheimer’s was difficult and lasted for several years.
He was a very kind man with a great love for animals and people. He enjoyed socializing, working in his yard and offer¬ing a helping hand to others. Jim will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, wonderful smile and great sense of hu¬mor.
