Unlike last year’s District 7 2A Wrestling Tournament, where Colville High won by the slimmest of margins, the Indians won last week’s District 7 2A championship at East Valley High School by a comfortable margin over the host Knights and perennial State 2A power Deer Park.
The Indians advance 17 of their 21 District wrestlers to the regional tournament at West Valley.
Colville scored 357.5 points to top regular season Great Northern League dual meet champion East Valley (321.5 points). Deer Park crowned five individual champions, but the Stags, who won five straight state titles in their recent reign, don’t have Colville’s depth and finished a distant third (264).
West Valley was fourth (198), Clarkston finished fifth (196) and Cheney was sixth (146). Pullman finished
Colville got titles from Jesse Morrison at 126, Tyler Ward at 132 pounds and Ian Cox at 138.
Finishing second for the Indians were Austin Donogh (120), Trenton Welton (152) and Jack Smith (285).
Securing Consolation championships for Colville were TJ Baun (106), Grady Nelson (138), Thailer Morrison
(145), Ben Knight (152) and Ryley Smith (160).
Losing in the consolation finals were Alex Linn (106), Brock VanQuekelberg (182) and Taylor Beeman (195).
Finishing fifth were Devon Eslick (120), Brandon Stinson
(132) and Beeman (385).
Hunter Clift finished sixth at 170.
The top five placers from the Great Northern League District will join the top seven from the Central Washington Athletic Association
(CWAC) at the Class 2A Region IV Tournament at West Valley in Spokane.
CHS head coach Randy Cloke was pleased with the way his wrestlers handled a difficult, and frankly hostile,
environment at East Valley.
