

Freeman Pulls Away From Chewelah in District Opener

A strong second half sent Freeman Scotties past Chewelah Cougars, 72-56, in the boys basketball District 6 2B first-round game Saturday, Feb. 7, at West Valley High School.
Chewelah came out sharp and led 19-14 after the opening quarter, but Freeman flipped the momentum in the second, outscoring the Cougars 19-7 to take a 33-26 halftime lead. Finn LaPointe scored a game-high 23 points to lead Freeman, using a decisive third-quarter surge to break open a close contest. The Scotties outscored Chewelah 21-16 in the third and followed with an 18-14 edge in the fourth quarter to pull away.
The Cougars had balanced scoring, with Asher Stancil, Frankie Sety, and Grady Skok each finishing with 12 points. Freeman countered with multiple contributors, including 18 points from Micah Hodges.
Chewelah dropped to 11-11 and will move into a loser-out game later in the tournament.
