Kettle Falls Day Use Restrooms Reopen After Vandalism

Restrooms at the Kettle Falls Day Use Area have reopened after vandalism temporarily forced the facilities to close for cleanup and repairs. According to Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area officials, the damage occurred sometime between July 26-27.

Mirrors were broken, fixtures were damaged, and debris was scattered throughout the restrooms, officials said. Photos released by the National Park Service showed shattered mirrors above sinks, with broken glass and trash covering portions of the floor. Paper towels and toilet paper were also scattered throughout the stall area, with a trash can tipped over.

The damage required the restrooms to be closed while maintenance employees cleaned the facilities and completed repairs. “When facilities are vandalized, it affects every visitor who relies on these spaces, and it redirects staff time away from serving the broader needs of the area,” park officials said[1.1].

The restrooms reopened July 29, following work by the maintenance team. Replacement mirrors have been ordered and will be installed when they arrive.
