Northport boys earn points behind relay, jumps at Valley Christian School (VCS) Jamboree

The Northport boys track and field team turned in a competitive early-season performance at the VCS Jamboree on March 17, finishing tied for seventh place with 16 points in a tightly-contested field.

Northport’s biggest highlight came on the track in the 4x400 relay, where the quartet of Pete Beardslee, Dalen Benjamin, Blaine Rieckers, and Cameron Mawdsley placed second with a time of 3:58.47, finishing just behind Northwest Christian’s winning mark of 3:52.28. The strong relay showing accounted for a large portion of the Mustangs’ team score.

Individually, Northport found success in the horizontal jumps. Freshman Hunter Creach posted a leap of 16 feet, 1 inch to place seventh in the long jump, while teammate Isaiah Kingsbury added an 11th-place finish at 14 feet, 3 inches. Kingsbury also contributed on the track, tying for eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.11.

In the sprints, Mawdsley led the Mustangs with a 13th-place finish in the 100 meters, clocking 12.45 seconds.

Northport also showed depth in the throws, led by David Kingsbury, who placed 12th in the shot put with a mark of 29 feet, 2 inches. Teammate Beardslee reached 83 feet, 8 inches in the discus to finish ninth.

In distance events, Canyon Hoskins led the way with a ninth-place finish in the 1600 meters, posting a time of 5:09.53.

Northport girls show strength in field events, jumps at VCS Jamboree

The Northport girls track and field team tied for eighth place at the VCS Jamboree with 21 points behind a strong showing in the field events and jumps.

The Mustangs were led by senior Dalilah Colton, who scored in multiple events. Colton placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 23 feet, 10 inches and followed that with a fifth-place finish in the javelin at 84 feet, 2 inches, one of the top marks of the day for Northport.

Northport’s throwing group continued to produce points throughout the meet. Brooklyn Wilson recorded a throw of 70 feet, 10 inches to place sixth in the discus and added an eighth-place finish in the javelin at 75 feet, 1 inch. 

On the track, Storm Gardner led Northport in the sprints, clocking 15.14 seconds in the 100 meters to place 10th.

Billie Wills also delivered one of the Mustangs’ top individual finishes of the day, taking second in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 11 inches.

Northport also found points in the hurdles, where Makaila Hackenberg placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in 27.74 seconds.
