Chewelah’s Got Talent tryouts April 23 and 30

This year’s annual Chewelah's Got Talent is set for May 7 at 6 p.m. at the Chewelah Peak Learning Center. Hosting the event is Chewelah's non-profit public radio station KCHW.

Contestants will via for their share of $1400 in cash prizes in several categories, with prize money donated by area businesses and individuals. Contestants for the May show are chosen by expert judges after going through two rounds of tryouts. Those tryouts, in similar fashion to American Idol, will be held April 23 and April 30 at 10 a.m. at the KCHW Broadcast Center in Chewelah. Tryouts are streamed live for public viewing on the KCHW website.

Eligible contestants must live within the KCHW broadcast signal, which currently runs from Colville to Clayton in a car. Entry forms are available online or at the KCHW Studios, 214 E. Clay, Suite 107 in Chewelah.

KCHW Station Manager Scott Schlafman said, “We started with only 1000 watts and a very small broadcast area so we've focus hard on promoting online listening to reach more county residents.”

KCHW is now in final preparations on a mountain top transmitter that will provide countywide service beginning later this summer. KCHW focuses on a diverse range of programming with a commitment to community, education, entertainment and the support of other community groups. Check them out in the Colville area at 102.7 FM or online. Call (509) 935-6627 for more details.
