Chewelah No. 1 (12-2) American Legion baseball team finished the regular season with a flourish, sweeping a pair of doubleheaders from Northern Lakes (7-5) and Freeman (3-10) and earning first place in the Area 3 American League, and a top seed into the regional tournament that starts on Friday in Spokane.
On Wednesday, Chewelah played Northern Lakes on the road at Timberlake (Idaho) High School and clinched first place with a 7-3, 2-1 sweep.

On a roll

With a doubleheader against a scuffling Freeman squad, the Cougars won game one 12-2 and game two 8-6 to extend a six-game winning streak heading into the post-season.
Head coach Sawyer Bardwell, who will take over the Jenkins High varsity program next spring, is very excited to be heading into the post-season on a roll.
“We are looking pretty good heading into districts,” Bardwell said. “I think we’re playing really well.”
