After a second narrow loss to Northeast A League co-champion (with Lakeside) Colville, the Jenkins High softball team closed out the Northeast A League regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Riverside on Saturday.
Chewelah, third-seeded to the NEA District Tournament, is looking forward to the post-season with a state berth on the line.
Three NEA teams will qualify out of District 7 for the State 1A Tournament May 27-28 in Richland.
The Cougars finished 15-5 overall and 10-4 in league play. Chewelah will host a first round District loser-out game on Tuesday against No. 6 seed Freeman.
Game time is 5 p.m.
In Tuesday’s other loser-out game, Deer Park (No. 4) will host fifth-seeded Medical Lake. Game time is 5 p.m.
The Chewelah vs. Freeman winner will advance to Vaagen Park in Colville and play No. 2 seeded Lakeside Saturday at 11 a.m.

Colville hosting

The Deer Park vs. Medical Lake survivor will play host and top-seeded Colville at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the other semifinal.
The winners will play for the District championship at 1 p.m.
The loser of game three and the loser of game four will play at 1 p.m. Saturday in Colville for the third seed to State.
Chewelah coach Tom Skok took the loss to Colville in stride. He thinks the narrow losses to Colville will be a learning experience for the Cougars and something the Cougars can hopefully reverse if they play CHS on Saturday.
