CHEWELAH—Jenkins High opened its 2016 football season with an overwhelming 48-0 victory over the outmanned Bridgeport Mustangs on Friday at Snyder Field.
Under new head coach Levi Hogan, the Cougars started fast. Jensen Holloway took the opening kickoff 96 yards for the initial touchdown and with a two point conversion, JHS led 8-0 just 13 seconds into the game.
From there, the rout was on. Chewelah scored 42 first quarter points.
Dominick Coleman had a pair of touchdown runs, while Kaden Mackowiak and Jake George added first quarter touchdowns and Holloway also notched a safety for the defense.
The game went to a running clock with one-minute remaining in the first quarter and the second quarter was dominated by a single drive from the JHS offense.
A 48-yard drive took nine minutes off the clock, but was stopped at the Bridgeport five- yard-line on fourth and goal with less than a minute left in the half.
In the second half, the clock kept running, but Nolan Hansen found the end zone for Chewelah to increase the final score to 48-0.
In all, Chewelah had over 200 yards rushing and the defense came up with two fumble recoveries and an interception.
This week Chewelah (1-0) opens Northeast A League play at home against Riverside (0-1).
Last season the Rams beat JHS 32-20 for their only win of the season.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
