A Colville man was injured when the 1992 Kennewick Tractor and tank trailer he was driving last Monday nine miles south of Usk on Highway 211 crashed and spilled approximately 12,000 gallons of diesel fuel, according to the Washington State Patrol report.

According to the Washington State Patrol report, Chad B. Beardsley, 43, of Colville, was northbound on Highway 211 at Deer Valley Road when he apparently became distracted by the six-week-old puppy with him in the cab.

Beardsley overcorrected and lost control. The tractor and trailer rolled, according to the WSP report.

The puppy was found under the truck, alive and well, according to the WSP report.

Beardsley was transported to a Spokane hospital with undetermined injuries.

A Department of Ecology spokesperson said the diesel fuel did not leak into any bodies of water. The soil around the highway at the crash site is saturated, which will likely require complete soil removal.
