The annual kickoff to the spring track and field season made its annual all-day run last Saturday at the Colville High School track and field complex.
The Ezra Gordon Invitational drew a pared down field of 22 teams this time around. For those so inclined to do the math, that’s over 1,200 entries.
Highlights for host Colville included Ben Elliott’s wins in both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles (16.99 and 42.45, respectively).
Kameron Strobel, high jumping competitively for the first time after high jumping the old scissors style one week earlier in a jamboree, raised a few eyebrows with an eye-popping 6-2 jump that was good for first place. Strobel was also third in the triple jump (39-10).
Teammate Brian Clark was second in the triple jump (41.25).
Noah Robbins finished fourth in the triple jump (39-2) and third in a new event for him, the pole vault (10-feet).
Tora Luu was third in the 200 meters (27.79) and second in the high jump (5-2). The senior finished third in the triple jump (32-3) and anchored the winning 4x200 relay team.
Freshman Kassi Brooks finished sixth in the long jump with a jump of 14-4. She was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.49) and was a member of that winning 4x200 relay team. Brooks was also sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:08.55).
In the pole vault, Anna Fox and Alexis Aubert finished third and fifth, respectively, with vaults of seven-feet.
Up next for CHS is the Deer Park Invitational on Friday. That meet is scheduled to start at noon.
