Gypsy Lawson

Gypsy was born Sept. 8, 1980 and passed away Aug. 1, 2012 at the age of 31 from a car accident. She was born in Ventura, CA and lived in Alturas, CA. She went through grade school in St. Maries, Idaho and spent the middle school years in Newman Lake. The family then settled on a farm in Northport. She attended Northport High School and Mary Walker High School in Springdale. As an adult, she spent a number of years in Spokane, where she graduated from Glen Dow Academy before moving back to Northport. Gypsy had many interests she was passionate about. She was involved with racing Baja Bugs with the Spokane Volkswagen Club in Spokane in her early teens and continued racing cars and especially motorcycles throughout her life. Animals of all kinds were her biggest love, and from earliest childhood, she rescued injured animals and helped restore them to health. Her determination was instrumental in the family fostering pets for the local shelters when she was in grade and middle schools. Her horse, Sunrise, was another of her passions. She was one with him, trained him to a very high degree, and showed him in all venues. Gypsy was very active in the show ring, beginning at age three with her own dairy goat, Mouse. She showed all species of animals in every barn at the Interstate Fair for many years, and then did the same at the Northeast Washington Fair and smaller fairs, in 4-H and open. She had a gift with animals and in many other realms not often seen. Her bright light went out much too soon and will be sadly missed. Gypsy, who was not married, is survived by her parents, Fran and Carl Ogren of Northport, brother and sister-in-law, Nathan and Adonica Ogren, and nephew, Tristan of Texas; brother, Daniel Key of Indiana; sister-of-the-heart, Arwen Turner of Springdale; grandparents, Ray and Bea Cannon of Camarillo, CA; aunts, Chrystie Jowell of California and Lezlee Craven of Oregon; uncle Joel Oksner of California; other mom; Beatriz Schultz of Springdale; cousins David and Trisha Oksner of California, Sage Beer, Samantha Sutherland, and Molli Craven, all of Oregon, her beloved dog, Albert; parrot, Mayday, cat, Boxer, and Sonny the horse who helped raise her; plus a host of other pets, relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Gypsy was preceded in death by her birth father, Jack Lawson. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 8 at the family farm in Northport. Please bring memories to share.
