Kettle Falls’ out in two

Kettle Falls High (21-7) was bounced out of the State 2B softball tournament in Yakima last Friday. The Lady Bulldogs, who won the District 7 championship and came into State on a serious roll, didn’t have a whole lot go their way in a two and out stint at State.
KFHS lost to Brewster and Springdale and were eliminated.
Kettle Falls’, third seeded out of their regional, trailed Brewster early before plating three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead over the Bears. But BHS scored three more runs in the sixth and added the eventual game-winning run in the seventh to hold off the Lady Bulldogs 7-6 in the tournament opener last Friday morning.

Still, by any measure, the 2016 campaign was a very successful one. Kettle Falls got back to State with a line-up that included only two seniors, albeit key ones in Hall and shortstop Olivia Beardslee.
KFHS will be back.
“Overall, I was pleased with the season and we are looking forward to a strong nucleus coming back next spring,” Glover said.
“I hope the girls learned what their potential could be and spend the time in the off-season making themselves better.”
Kettle will return nine players who consistently started during the spring.
“We had good freshmen this season and we have some good freshmen coming into the program. We just have to figure out how to replace Makayla Hall and Olivia Beardslee.”
That won’t be easy.
